“COVID shows that no country is prepared for a global pandemic, no matter how its health system is. All competitors are experiencing this new reality, and the solutions presented  act on various aspects of the disease, in addition to the creation of extra hospital beds. How do our day to day urban spaces respond to this? How to isolate and transport the patient? How to protect society while caring for the sick? “ Sara Pelicano, arch.

 

“This pandemic revelled a urgent necessity of planning the response to any other catastrophe to come. The presented proposals showed great thoughts of emergency architecture with a quick and effective response to the theme. The projects can be characterized into 3 main groups: POPUP, Mutable, and Transformer with great insight of the importance of architecture in public health”, Pedro Santos, arch.

 

“ Idea competitions should work like group brainstorming, generating discussion and critical thinking. It is a great way to experiment and test new programmes, through free-form approaches that can speculate what future might be. It is also a huge opportunity to evolve and discuss among peers. (The contest should promote more contact between participants so that the discussion can resonate and promote the confrontation of ideas. Most of the benefit of this kind of experience is lost in the lack of real time dialogue)”, Cristina Mendonça, arch.

The street occupation with prefabricated modules that can be easily made, transported and connected to the city facilities can turn this proposal in one of the most feasible. “Clearily this struture shows some appects of self assembly, usage of the energy spent on the its constrution and its operantion, suitable for pandemic and the control of it.” Pedro Santos, arch.

“This structure reflects the character of an emergent need, with na easy assembly na transportation. A great solution for any enviorement. It is a god pointo of view of reuse this struture to any public equipement after the pandemic.” Pedro Santos, arch.
